I was doing some image research for issue 5 and came across the dog reading, part of a set of Rand McNally Elf books from the 50s. What a busy First Thursday it was here in UPPERCASE. I've just finished posting the remaining letters from Mike Kerr's show of letters. You can view them all in detail in the online shop.

Here are some images of the paintings; the majority are original acrylic works painted on square boards. There are also a few framed prints.

However, I made an exception to continue the design identity for my landlord's latest development project, Fashion Central. Located a block from Art Central, this new destination is also developed within heritage buildings in the heart of downtown.

Taking inspiration from the old mosaic tiles and architectural details revealed throughout the buildings, the identity consists of a strong, contemporary wordmark that plays off of the various pattern designs created for Fashion Central.

For today's media launch and grand opening, I designed and made some pocket mirror giveaways. Make sure to stop by Fashion Central and Art Central the next time you're in the city centre.

Mike Kerr's Show of Letters was hung last night and it is looking great. (UPPERCASE will be open from 3pm - 9pm today.)

I've got one month to go before the baby is due, so I will be working from home more and more (it is getting more difficult to walk/waddle/breathe these days!) So tonight is really the best time to come see the show (and purchase some affordable, original paintings) in person. There are plenty of First Thursday festivities (plus the opening of my landlords' newest development project, Fashion Central, just a block away.)

The show will be posted in the online shop by the weekend.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.uppercasegallery.ca/uppercase-journal/2010/2/2/birds-gone-electric.html"><rss:title>Birds gone electric</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.uppercasegallery.ca/uppercase-journal/2010/2/2/birds-gone-electric.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Creativity Creature</dc:subject>

I was very sad to read that illustrator Nick Dewar has passed away. He was an illustrator that I admired. When organizing The Shatner Show in 2007, I had list of dream participants and I was delighted that someone as talented, busy and well-known as Nick accepted our invitation with such enthusiasm. His humourous silkscreened poster was one of the most popular images of the exhibition. I'm honoured that I had the chance to exhibit his work.

My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

</rss:item></rdf:RDF>
