We're expanding... literally! Janine is expecting a baby in March and so the physical retail store in Art Central will be on hiatus/maternity leave for the first half of 2010. Rest assured that UPPERCASE will be part of the Art Central community for many years to come, but the focus will be on publishing UPPERCASE magazine and books as well as expanding our line of papergoods. When we’re in the studio, you are more than welcome to come in, shop our unique products, peruse the books we’ve published and subscribe to the magazine. Our online shop is open 24-hours a day. Shipping of orders continues without interruption.

Is it creative? Is it curious? We'd like to see it! Mail us postcards, letters, artwork, trinkets, photos, found objects... The most interesting things will be featured in the magazine and online. (Sorry, items will not be returned.)

    Call for submissions: Elder Style

For our Spring issue's style feature, we are celebrating the fashion sensibilities of senior style. Inspired by the blog Advanced Style and our own stylish grandparents, hat-wearing great aunts and dapper old uncles, we invite you to submit images and stories of fashionable elders.

There are two categories to which you can submit, images of them stylish back in the day (this beautiful woman picture above is Kate's grandmother) and contemporary photos (below). You're welcome to submit to both categories! Please include a description (100-150 words) of why you admire their style and any personal anecdotes you'd like to share. You need to have the permission of your subject or family before submitting a photograph for possible publication.

Images should be 4 inches wide at 300dpi and can be uploaded here.

    Postcards

In issue 2, we have inserted one authentic vintage postcard in each magazine. Rubberstamped with our return address, we want you to modify the postcard in some way. Be creative! Manipulate, cut, paste, adorn... transform the postcard into something curious. Tell a story whether through words or pictures and send it back to us.

We will be curating your postcards into an exhibition as well as publishing them in future issues of the magazine. (*If we’re amazed by your creations and receive enough of them, we hope to publish a book!) Feel free to use your own old postcards as a starting point if you would like to send multiple submissions. Include your full name and contact information on each card. (Don’t forget the postage!)
